Just when you thought the world had hit peak alternative burger bun, a restaurant in London has emerged from the doughnut- and grilled cheese-strewn fray to offer an unexpected option: Scotch egg buns. Scotch eggs are hardboiled eggs that are wrapped in meat (typically sausage), coated with breadcrumbs, and then deep fried.
Yeah Burger splits a Scotch egg in half and then stacks a burger patty, plus a number of toppings, in between the two halves for perhaps the most protein-heavy burger around. Options include sandwiches like The Scotch Ness Monster (aged beef, cheddar, pickled onions, white pepper-and-sage scotch egg), The Dragon (lamb patty, caramelized leeks, clamato beurre black, haggis-and-kedgeree Scotch egg), and the vegetarian-friendly Glaswegian (buttermilk fried tofu, kimchi, nori mayo, mushroom-and-quinoa Scotch egg). The burgers are available until August 22.
