Ever since Pizza Hut debuted its Stuffed Crust Pizza in 1995, the worldwide chain has been synonymous with pizza crust and things stuffed inside it. Over the years, the Hut has moved on from one cheese to a blend of cheeses and bacon. Now, a reader of TheImpulsiveBuy points out that the company's hot dog-stuffed crust may be coming to America.
Yes, pizza crust stuffed with hot dogs. Pizza Hut has been serving the puzzling mashup, complete with a mustard drizzle, in a few countries since 2012, but a new promotional flyer indicates it could be set for a June 18 launch in the U.S. The flyer reads, "Something big is coming" and "Frankly, it's gonna be a total game changer." That thinly veiled "frank" reference, along with images of a hotdog and ketchup and mustard packets on the flyer, doesn't leave much doubt.
Update; June 10, 3 p.m. ET: Pizza Hut's PR confirms to Eater that the company will indeed launch Hot Dog Bites Pizza on June 18. "Unlike international variations, the Hot Dog Bites Pizza available in the United States, while supplies last, will be surrounded by 28 bite-sized hot dogs baked into the crust." The pizza will come with a side of French's mustard, which replaces the mustard drizzle that tops overseas versions, and a large with one topping checks in at $11.99.
Pizza Hut is never content to simply dish out mass-produced pies. The company launched a two-foot long pizza rectangle last month, and restaurants in Hong Kong are serving pizza in boxes that can be transformed into movie projectors.
