Eater's hiring media and design interns — paid or for college credit — to work remotely or in our Midtown Manhattan HQ for 10 to 12 hours a week. We're looking for students or recent graduates who are able to balance a variety of projects and deliveries, willing to participate in brainstorms and bring new ideas to the table, and can work as part of a team or independently.
The design intern will create illustrations for Eater's editorial and video teams and help create customizable series templates for Pinterest, YouTube, Facebook, and other social platforms. This person will also help with photo research and layouts, and we want someone with strong feelings about story design, drop caps, typefaces, and art direction.
Ideal candidates have a background in illustration or graphic design; experience in Illustrator, Photoshop, and After Effects; and the ability to create freehand illustrations, mood boards, storyboards, and style frames. Knowledge of HTML/CSS is a plus, and we're looking for someone with a flexible aesthetic style that fits Eater as a brand, as well as the mood and tone for each new project or series.
Eater's media intern will work primarily with the engagement and video teams by helping create social assets, editing and repurposing videos, and developing social strategies around videos and evergreen content.
Ideal candidates have a background in and passion for social media — including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest — in addition to videography and editing. Experience with Canon 5D Mark III and Adobe Premiere is preferred (bonus points for C100/300, Photoshop, and After Effects). We're looking for someone with the ability to create and think outside the box on projects geared towards video platforms like Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram — someone whose creativity has no limits and who's able to constantly bring new shareable content to the table that fits Eater as a brand, as well as the mood and tone for each new project or series.
To apply, please email your resume, cover letter, and portfolio to jobs@eater.com with Eater Design Internship or Eater Media Internship in the subject line. For the design internship, include 4-6 examples of stories on non-Vox Media sites that you think are laid out intelligently in terms of type, art, and other visual components, as well as links to 5-10 illustrators, photographers, and letterers that inspire you. For the media intern, please send in a reel if available as well.
