Here are some more details about the upcoming biopic about McDonald's founder Ray Kroc called The Founder. E! News writes that actress Laura Dern (Jurassic Park) is set to star as Kroc's first wife Ethel. She joins actor Michael Keaton (Birdman) who has signed on to play Kroc in the film which covers the chain's rise to global burger domination. E! adds that comedian Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) and actor Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring) have also joined the cast of the film.
Dern affirms to E! News that the movie will not be happy and campy. While it will be a "true depiction of how [McDonald's] came about and what it meant to Americans in really positive ways," it will also "depict the darker side of the business." She adds that what most interests her about the film is that it explores "what gets sacrificed when greed is a priority or self-loathing in a way is a priority." Dern admits that while she stars in a film about McDonald's, she is not a fan of the chain's food.
The script — which is reported to be serious and heavy — is written by Robert Siegel (The Wrestler) and the film will be directed by John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side). There are no details regarding a release date yet.
