Time magazine dropped its twelfth annual Time 100 list of the most influential people in the world today, and it includes two major food world names. The list features an article about each person written by another well known name. First up is cookbook author and Food Network host Ina Garten. Singer Taylor Swift writes that the former nuclear policy analyst's goal "is to make things easier for us." Swift adds that "fans love her warmth and generosity" and that "she shows us how to create memories that we'll treasure for years to come."
Restaurateur and Shake Shack creator Danny Meyer also makes the cut. Chef and Top Chef judge Tom Colicchio — who once worked with Meyer — writes that it's Meyer's emphasis on making customers "feel valued and cared for" that makes him so successful. He adds, "As Danny's business has grown, from a single restaurant to a nearly $2 billion Shake Shack burger empire with outlets around the world, its core has never changed."
Food world influencers are no strangers to the Time 100 list: In 2013, Brazilian chef Alex Atala was named for his work towards "shaping a better food culture for Latin America." In 2011, Chicago chef Grant Achatz made the cut, while both chef David Chang and author/activist Michael Pollan landed on the list in 2010.
