What's the best way to show the world that you have tons of cash to burn? By only eating meals covered in truffles, of course. Harrods — London's swankiest department store — is getting its very own truffle-themed restaurant. According to Big Hospitality, Italian restaurant Truffles & Friends will open its first UK outpost next month on the ground floor of the famed department store.
Every dish and drink contains truffles.
The 40-seat truffle emporium will serve drinks and dishes riddled with the pricey fungi. The menu includes items like burrata with truffle honey and fresh truffle, a fresh truffle- and foie gras-topped burger, and a duck club sandwich with egg, pomegranate, and yes, truffles.
The cocktail menu is "truffle-focused" and over-the-top as well: The house margarita is made with white truffle salt and the martini is made with truffle honey and truffle slices, which might make it undrinkable, but who cares, it has truffles in it. Harrods' food director Bruce Langlands tells Big Hospitality that they believe Truffles & Friends will help make Harrods "the best food emporium" in the world.
Harrods is no stranger to fancy food: In 2011, the department store was home to a ten day pop-up of chef Thomas Keller's famed Napa Valley restaurant The French Laundry where diners were served a $400 tasting menu. That same year, Harrods sold a $32 sundae inspired by pop star Justin Bieber's "Someday" perfume. Like the price tag, the toppings — lavender sprinkles and edible glitter — were over-the-top.
