Remains of Murdered 'Food Network Star' Contestant Found in Wood Oven

The suspect is facing a first degree murder charge.

In tragic news, police believe they have found the bodies of missing Food Network Star contestant Cristie Schoen Codd and her husband Joseph Codd. According to Fox Carolina, authorities found human remains in a wood-burning stove at the home of Robert Owens' house. Owens was arrested last week and charged with first degree murder, breaking and entering, and the murder of an unborn child, because Cristie Schoen Codd was five months pregnant. Avance Digital writes that the remains are currently "in the process of being identified."

The couple was first reported missing from their North Carolina home earlier this month by family members. Police looked into Robert "Jason" Owens, one of the Codds' neighbors — and the couple's handyman — who lived half a mile away. Once in custody, detectives says he made statements saying that he "stored and destroyed part of the remains" at a second property he owned.

Furthering Owens' guilt, his wife gave a statement to the police saying that he admitted that he ran over and killed Joseph Codd with a Dodge Ram that belonged to the victim. Police have not released information about Owens' motive to kill Cristie Schoen Codd — who appeared on the eight season of the Food Network Star — and her husband, who worked in the film industry.
