Breaking news in the insular world of rapper Iggy Azalea's ongoing beef with Papa John's: In a statement released to both the Hollywood Reporter and ABC News, Papa John's says it has taken "appropriate disciplinary action" upon the employee Azalea accused of leaking her cell phone number.
For the uninitiated, just hours before last night's Grammy Awards, Azalea Tweeted that she was inundated with text messages and phone calls after using her personal cell phone number to place a delivery order with the Papa John's Pizzeria chain. According to one text Azalea screengrabbed and posted on Twitter, a fan texted her directly, saying, "my brother delivered something from Papa John's to u and he gave me the number on Friday night." Initially, the chain tried to smooth out the incident with a joke/reference to one of the rapper's songs:
But Azalea has continued to rail against the chain, in Tweets published yesterday and today, for breaching her privacy:
I want answers @papajohns why is customer confidentiality a joke to your company?— IGGY AZALEA (@IGGYAZALEA) February 9, 2015
And today, Papa John's reached out:
@IGGYAZALEA We’ve been trying to get in touch with you. Please follow us so we can DM you.— Papa John's Pizza (@PapaJohns) February 9, 2015
Now, Papa John's is embroiled in a PR nightmare, and earlier this afternoon, it appears Azalea has, indeed, followed them on Twitter. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Papa John's released a statement saying: "Privacy of our customers and employees is extremely important to us. Papa John's has taken appropriate disciplinary action with regard to the employee involved. We are reaching out directly to Ms. Azalea and hope to resolve this incident and make it right." (It does not say how, exactly, the employee in question has been disciplined.) Azalea has yet to Tweet/confirm if she's been contacted by the chain, and/or how Papa John's intends to "make it right." Developing.
