Eater Seeks Data, News, and Editorial Interns

Here's how to apply.

Eater's looking for enthusiastic interns with journalism in their blood to join our team.

The data intern will work with Eater editors to examine internal data and analytics and to craft data-driven stories. Responsibilities include (a) data collection and analysis; (b) working with editors to gain perspective on data insights; (c) managing Excel spreadsheets for various projects and translating Eater objectives into actionable analyses; (d) pitching ideas, researching, and analyzing data for visualizations and stories.

The news intern will work with our news team to (a) write stories; (b) research topics related to coverage; (c) work on social strategies; (d) monitor news sources; (e) create images and conduct photo research.

And the editorial intern will work with Eater editors across the board. Responsibilities vary but can include (a) researching and writing posts for Eater city sites; (b) dashing to the scene of breaking news here in New York; (c) designing graphics and timelines for upcoming stories; (d) additional research for special projects, ranging from potential video scripts to cookbook coverage.

We're looking for interns who understand Eater's audience and are familiar with restaurants, chefs, and food culture. Applicants should have strong writing skills, with bonus points given for social media and photography/Photoshop experience. Prospective data interns should have a passion for statistics, knowledge of modern programming languages, and experience working with large public datasets.

Internships — paid or for college credit — require 10 to 12 hours a week in our Midtown office; remote applicants will also be considered. To apply, please email with the subject line Eater Internship and specify which internship you're interested in. Include a cover letter, resume, and past writing samples if applicable. If we like what we see, we'll be in touch quickly. Thanks.
