A Tasting With the Real Pappy Van Winkle Will Set You Back (At Least) $7K

You will also get to snack on ham.

Here's a chance to drink that pricey, popular, and oh-so elusive whiskey Pappy Van Winkle with the maker himself, Julian Van Winkle. According to a press release, Van Winkle is auctioning off a bourbon tasting and distillery tour at the Buffalo Trace Distillery in Frankfurt, Kentucky where the whiskey is made. The package also includes plenty of drinking: There will be a rare chance to taste 10,12,15, 20, and 23 year Pappy Van Winkle bourbons in one sitting. Plus, chef and cookbook author Sean Brock will be on hand to feed you four-year-old country ham from his Charleston restaurant McCrady's.

The release notes that the only way to purchase the package is through an auction — the bid is currently at $7,000 — and it covers the winner and a guest. All profits from the auction will be donated to Heritage Radio Network, a non-profit radio station in Brooklyn. The auction ends February 12, so it might just be the greatest Valentine's Day present of all time. If that doesn't work out, here's some alternative whiskeys to gift your beloved.
