Inside Danny Meyer's Latest Opening; Update: U.S. Taco Co. Nixes Chicago Rumors

Plus, a Top Chef alum to head up a DC food policy council.

NEW YORK CITY— Hospitality maven Danny Meyer (Gramercy Tavern, the Shake Shack empire) has finally opened his first standalone bar, and Eater NY takes a look inside. Porchlight — which presumably does not reference the Portlandia sketch — offers a Southern-inspired cocktail menu by a Booxer & Dax alum. Head over for a look inside. [ENY]

CHICAGO— Could this be the second-ever location of Yum! Brand's fast-casual taco concept? Eater Chicago floats the rumor that U.S. Taco Co., whose first restaurant debuted last summer in Huntington Beach, California, has signed a lease in Chicago's Wicker Park neighborhood. Unlike the unapologetically fast-food branding of its sister concept Taco Bell, U.S. Taco Co. offer a $10 lobster taco on its menu, alongside nine other options in the $3.25-$4.75 per taco range. UPDATE: A Yum! Brands representative states that a U.S. Taco Co. is not slated for that Chicago address, and will be a Taco Bell instead. [ECHI]

WASHINGTON, DC— Top Chef alum Spike Mendelsohn has been appointed chairman of a new DC food policy council. Eater DC reports the council's main goal is to improve "food access and inequity" in all eight of the city's wards; the council will submit an annual report on the topic. [EDC]
