Even the losers at the Academy Awards are richly rewarded. According to Business Insider, the notorious swag bags that will be handed out to losing acting and directing nominees (as well as this year's host Neil Patrick Harris) at tonight's event are valued at an insane $168,000 and will contain, among other things, $280 worth of maple syrup, a $1,500 "VIP tour" of a private sea salt reserve in the South of France, and an $800 gift certificate for a company specializing in custom candy buffets.
Lower-ticket items include $68 in "herbal-tea-based lollipops" adorned with 24-karat gold leaf, $75 worth of a fancy apple varietal known as Ambrosia, $45 worth of gluten-free cookies, and oddly enough, a $9 bag of Dunkin' Donuts coffee (celebrities, they're just like us!). Don't be too jealous, though; as Forbes points out, the lucky recipients still have to pay taxes on all this stuff.
Meanwhile, the post-awards party will be catered by legendary chef Wolfgang Puck for the 21st year in a row. According to The Daily Mail, this year's menu includes "parsnip soup with white chocolate, pears and 24k gold, and mini gold-wrapped baked potatoes with French farm-raised Osetra caviar and creme fraiche."
