McDonald's goes McHollywood: Actor and recent Golden Globe award winner Michael Keaton (Birdman, Batman) is in talks to star in The Founder, a movie about the chain's rise to global-burger domination. According to the Telegraph, John Lee Hancock (The Blind Side) is officially on board to direct the film.
The film tells the "dark" true story of how Ray Kroc — a crafty salesman from Illinois — met founders Mac and Dick McDonald, and was so impressed by their speedy operation that he maneuvered himself into a position to buy the franchise. Kroc eventually turned McDonald's into a "billion-dollar empire." Keaton could play Kroc in the upcoming film.
The Hollywood Reporter writes that the "tone of the script" — written by Robert Siegel (The Wrestler) — is similar to that of The Social Network and There Will Be Blood, which means the film will be serious and heavy. There are no details regarding a release date yet.
