French chef Jean Luc Figueras has passed away. La Vanguardia reports that the chef died last night of a heart attack while in Turkey for a food event. Quote (translated): He worked "from five in the morning until eleven at night to serve the tasting menu... After dinner [Figueras] retired to rest in his hotel room, where he was later found unconscious." Figueras was the chef at Mercer Hotel in Barcelona; previously, he commanded the kitchen at his namesake restaurant in France from 1995 until 2007. [La Vanguardia][Photo: David Airob]
