Just a few weeks after confirming an expansion to Texas, Chicago deep-dish icon Gino's East announced plans to open five locations in Mexico City: The Chicago Tribune reports the 50-year-old brand will start its international expansion in just a few months, with the first Mexico City restaurant to debut by December. In a statement to the paper, Gino's East VP says the outposts will highlight local ingredients like poblano peppers and al pastor.
Last month, Gino's announced it would open four locations in Texas, serving its deep-dish pizzas while incorporating Texas barbecue as a topping. It appears that the first Mexico City outpost will beat Texas to the punch: No opening date has been set for any Lone Star State location.
