It's not just the merry band of megatippers TipsForJesus that feel the need to leave serious dough on the gratuity line: A couple in Iowa posted a picture on Facebook of a receipt they left a server at a busy restaurant that featured a $100 tip. The reason behind the large tip is surprising, however. According to the Facebook post, service sucked: "Took 20 minutes to get water, 40 minutes for an appetizer and over an hour for our entrée. People all around us were making fun of the restaurant and how bad the service was."
The couple could empathize with the server who was polite even while dealing with "dealing with 12 tables on a short-staffed night," because they used to be servers. They decided to "make this guy's night" by leaving a $100 tip on their $66 check for a 150 percent tip. They added a note: "We've both been in your shoes. Paying it forward." The couple added on their Facebook post that they are sharing the photo "as a friendly reminder to think of the entire situation, before you judge."
The Des Moines Register notes that since Saturday night, the post has received more than 1.2 million likes on Facebook and has over 1,000 comments.
