Exo — the makers of cricket flour-based protein bars — has raised $1.2 million in funding. According to a press release, investors include entrepreneur Tim Ferriss (who has also invested in Twitter and Uber), Start Garden (previously invested in Boxed Water is Better), and Collaborative Funds, which has invested in Hampton Creek Foods and Blue Bottle Coffee.
Co-founder Greg Sewitz tells Eater that the company plans to use the additional funding to build out their team, "create delicious and healthful products from insect flour," and bulk up their inventory. Currently, the company’s protein bars come in four flavors — including apple cinnamon and blueberry-vanilla — and they are all made from organic ground crickets. Go, watch Sewitz explain why eating bugs is the best way to change the world through food.
