Heston Blumenthal's Fat Duck Australia pop-up has announced the details of its run. While the original Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, England undergoes renovations, those who wish to dine at the pop-up in Southbank, Melbourne may make reservations beginning on October 8; The reservations line will close on October 26. The Crown Tower Resorts will host the pop-up which opens to diners on February 3, 2015. Fat Duck's Aussie menu will cost AU$525, or about $475 per person, excluding beverages. Per a release: "Guests should anticipate about four hours to complete their multi-sensory gastronomic journey of history, nostalgia, emotion and memory."
Given the prospective demand for reservations, Fat Duck Melbourne will be accepting names through a ballot system on their website. Interested parties may register on the website beginning at 9 a.m. (Australian Daylight Time) on Monday, October 8 through midnight on Sunday, October 26. Once the registration period closes, "an impartial third party will indiscriminately select successful applicants." Applicants who are picked will be notified on Monday, November 10 and contacted by phone shortly thereafter to confirm and secure the reservation.
The final Fat Duck Melbourne meal will be served on Saturday, August 15, 2015. About one month later, in late September, Blumenthal's hit London restaurant Dinner by Heston Blumenthal will open a permanent location inside The Crown. Blumenthal says in a release: "Australia's response to the news that The Fat Duck would make Melbourne its home for six months has been absolutely overwhelming. I am utterly humbled by the reception."
