CBS Picks Up Sitcom Inspired by NYC's Meatball Shop

New York City restaurateurs Daniel Holzman and Michael Chernow, owners of the Meatball Shop chainlet, are the inspiration behind an upcoming CBS sitcom: Deadline reports Holzman and Chernow will serve as consulting producers of the as-yet-unnamed comedy, executive produced by Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Cougar Town). Writer Jeff Astrof (The New Adventures of Old Christine) will co-produce.

The set-up borrows many details from the Meatball Shop duo's real life: The multi-camera show will follow two "lifelong best friends" who go into the restaurant business together and eventually have to seek out a couples therapist to help keep them "from killing each other." Remarkably, it's the second TV project currently in the works from the Meatball Shop team: Earlier this spring, FYI Networks announced it picked up a pilot, Say It to My Face, featuring Holzman and Chernow "defending themselves from their toughest online critics."
