Chef Jason Neroni has straddled both coasts for years now — and who can blame him? This week, the chef who has logged time at Porchetta in NYC and was a partner at Pitfire Pizza and Superba Snack Bar in LA surprised everyone by opening B-Side Pizzeria in Manhattan. In partnership with John Dempsey (Vynl diner, Hells Kitchen restaurant, El Centro), the group behind 71 Clinton Fresh Food and 10 Downing opened the 38-seat pizzeria in Hell's Kitchen this past Wednesday. B-Side has its own Pavesi oven, and plans to use it to grill vegetable starters and low-temperature Neapolitan-style pizzas.
Neroni, who garnered plenty of praise for his smoked bucatini carbonara at LA's Superba Snack Bar, plans to offer a carbonara pizza made with smoked mozzarella, pancetta, and a soft egg. Other menu items include ash-cooked peaches with charred scallion vinaigrette, and formaggio di fossa; a cauliflower wedge with capers, anchovies, raisins, and pine nuts; bacon & beef meatballs; roasted avocado with preserved lemon; and 10 different pizzas. The single dessert, a panna cotta, is served with grilled strawberries and vincotto. B-Side Pizza is now open from 4 p.m. until midnight daily and will be open for breakfast and lunch later this year.
