High-end Philadelphia-based coffee chain La Colombe Torrefaction has some seriously ambitious expansion plans up its sleeve. Co-founder Todd Carmichael tells Daily Coffee News that he and his business partner have signed a deal for "$28.5 million worth of private investments." Carmichael will use to money to build "upwards of 100 new cafés" in major U.S. cities over the next five years (on Facebook, La Colombe tells its fans to "please be patient").

It appears as if La Colombe is wasting no time: Seven new leases have already been signed in cities like Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., Chicago, and New York. There are also plans to open in Boston, Baltimore, and "parts of the West Coast" like Los Angeles and Seattle. It will be a busy year for Carmichael, who also hosts a show on Travel Channel called Dangerous Grounds.
