JBF's 2014 Food Conference; Art of Eating's Book Prize

NEW YORK CITY— The James Beard Foundation has announced the theme for its 2014 Food Conference, taking place October 27 and 28 in NYC. This year, the event will tackle the question Health & Food: Is Better Food the Prescription for a Healthier America?, with panelists like Mark Bittman, White House policy advisor Sam Kass, and Michael Pollan all expected to weigh in. BOOK CLUB— Food mag The Art of Eating has announced the launch of an annual prize for the "Best Food Book of the Year," bestowing $10,000 on the "single best work" of the year. Books must be nominated by their publishers, and the inaugural panelists include the likes of author/food scientist Harold McGee, Brooklyn Brewery brewmaster/author Garrett Oliver, and chef Daniel Patterson.
