Watch a Cruise Ship's Robot Bartenders in Action

Cruise ship line Royal Caribbean has been experimenting with on-board dining gimmicks of late, recently debuting the "first food truck at sea" and offering restaurant concepts by chefs Michael Schwartz and Jamie Oliver. Its newest ship Quantum of the Seas ups the ante by adding robot bartenders to the mix: According to a press release, the on-board Bionic Bar is completely staffed by robotic bartenders that are "activated by a series of sensors that detect when a guest enters the venue."

The ship will implement the Makr Shakr, a drink-making robot that debuted last year at the Google I/O conference in San Francisco. Guests order their drink from a tablet and pay by tapping their electronic SeaPass cards; once the drinks is paid for, the robot mixes it and delivers to the guest via a conveyor belt. Royal Caribbean has spliced Bionic Bar renderings with footage of the Makr Shakr in action, so if you missed the robots the first time around, watch them at work here:
