It's now official: New Haven cult classic Pepe's Pizza is expanding its reach into Boston. As Eater Boston reported this morning, a press release confirms that the first Boston-based Pepe's will land inside The Fireplace in Brookline. The Fireplace will close this upcoming December, at which point Pepe's will move in.
Said The Fireplace's longtime owner and chef Jim Solomon in a release: "[T]here are not many restaurants that I would be comfortable turning our space over to, but it is a dream to transfer our lease to Pepe's to let them build a new tradition here, and for them to introduce their outstanding product to Bostonians. I will be a frequent customer." Since 1925, Pepe's Pizza has served as a cornerstone of the New Haven pizza scene. Now a small regional chain, Pepe's plans on opening several locations in Massachusetts and beyond.
