Here's a sneak peek of New York chef George Mendes' upcoming book, My Portugal: Recipes and Stories. Mendes runs the Portugal-inspired restaurant Aldea, and for this book he went on a road trip through Portugal, a "country small enough to drive top to bottom in about four hours (granted, I drive fast)." Mendes tells Eater, "It has excerpts from the road trip but it's full of stories [about] growing up, family recipes and dishes from Aldea throughout the years. I aim to introduce people to Portuguese food and familiarize it."
The book is filled with Portuguese recipes both traditional and from the restaurant, and features photography from Romulo Yanes (whose work you may recognize from the dearly departed Gourmet magazine). My Portugal comes out October 7 from Stewart, Tabori & Chang (pre-order on Amazon); take a look.
