Ice Cream Shop Receives Threats Over Planned Parenthood Flavor

An ice cream shop in Portland, Oregon received a series of "threatening" messages after "word was spread on social media" that it was offering a special flavor of ice cream to raise money for Planned Parenthood. According to Eater Portland, last week, What's the Scoop? served a special honey vanilla ice cream flavor with rose petals called "Rose City Revolution" to fund raise for Planned Parenthood. What's the Scoop? hosts a recurring fundraiser during which the shop "donates 10 percent of proceeds to an organization in need, plus 50 percent of proceeds if a collaborative ice cream flavor is involved."

The shop received threatening phone calls and "very disturbing" voicemail messages. Many anti-abortion supporters also sent the shop angry messages via Facebook and Twitter. One Facebook commenter went so far as to suggest awful flavor alternatives on the shop's page: "So, for the flavor supporting planned parenthood lets try, Baby blood espresso, crushed baby skull with fetus fingers, or we sold our soul to Satan." The owner of the shop tells Eater Portland that the reactions were surprising: "It was the second fundraiser we have done with Planned Parenthood, the first one went off without any reactions or comments."
