Potato Salad Kickstarter Lost $30,000 in One Night

New, 2 comments

The Potato Salad Kickstarter that became an internet sensation lost almost $30,000 in donations overnight. Zack Danger Brown managed to raise over $70,000 to make the spiffy spud dish. However, Buzzfeed notes, between Wednesday and Thursday the total raised shrank to just over $44,000.

Some believe that the drop was due to the backlash Brown encountered by changing the potato salad picture. However, a representative for Kickstarter told Buzzfeed that the drop in pledges was due the cancellation of "three large donations that didn't meet their verification review." Regardless, Brown still has nearly $45,000 and 22 days left to fundraise. Even with the drop in funds, no doubt a slew of copycats will continue to pop up attempting to mimic his success.
