Chef Thomas Keller reports that the Town of Yountville has approved a renovation and expansion plan for his three Michelin star restaurant The French Laundry. News of the proposed expansion plan first broke in February when the city council approved rezoning that would allow the restaurant to expand. In April, rumors circulated that the restaurant would close in July and/or August.
As of yet, there are no new details about what the expansion and renovation plans will entail. Per the agenda from last night's town council meeting, Keller is planning to create a "kitchen expansion, new entry approach," plus "paving and landscaping for the parcels located at 6640 Washington Street." There has been no indication that there will be major changes to the dining room and the construction timeline has not yet been confirmed. Eater has reached out to TKRG and has not heard back yet.
The expansion isn't Keller's only Yountville project. Last month the chef's restaurant group got approval from the town to transform an old gallery into a shop. The working name is Bouchon Creamery and the plan is to sell ice cream, sorbet, and frozen yogurt in house-made waffle cones and other cold treats.
