Though this summer's fair season is just getting started, the Minnesota State Fair so far has a lock on the most insane foods to be put on a stick and deep-fried. Besides the usual — turkey legs, hot dogs, cheeseburgers — Minnesota's fair is offering items like Deep-Fried Breakfast on a Stick, Jello Salad Ice Cream, Pizza Tots, Shrimp Dogs, Pretzel Curds, and — for all the folks on paleo diets in the Mid-West — Gluten-Free Beer-Battered Brats. Find more photos, below:
Shrimp Dogs
A "Shrimp Dog" from the Shrimp Shack combines baby shrimp with cream cheese, then batter-dips and deep-fries the concoction (after putting it on a stick).
Chocolate Dessert Salami
There's no actual meat in the dish, but Sausage Sisters offer a "Chocolate Dessert Salami" featuring chocolate, butter, almonds and walnuts rolled into a "distinctive salami shape."
Pizza Tots
Deep-fried pizza "tots" combine the usual hash browns with sausage, pepperoni, mozzarella, and appropriate pizza seasonings; they're served with a side of pizza sauce for dipping.
Gluten-Free Corn Brat
Excellent news for Celiac sufferers: This bratwurst corn dog is gluten-free.
Deep Fried Lobster On-A-Stick
In a questionable use of lobster, the self-explanatory "Deep Fried Lobster On-A-Stick" first poaches the lobster in butter before battering it and then deep-frying the whole thing.
SnoRibbons
These "SnoRibbons" — half shaved ice, half ice cream — come in flavors like strawberry pretzel cream cheese and "salty dog."
Jello Salad Ice Cream
This nondescript-looking ice cream takes inspiration from a Midwestern classic: It's "Jello Salad"-flavored.
