Umami Burger — the LA-based restaurant chain that was founded in 2009 by Adam Fleischman — has shuttered its sole location in Florida. As confirmed by Eater Miami, Umami Burger South Beach was not doing well enough to survive. It stood on a street that has been under construction since last year, a disruption that stifled nearby businesses.

Just last year we spoke with Fleischman about his expansion plans, so it's surprising to hear that Umami Miami, which has only been open since 2012, has already hit a dead end. The official statement from a company representative:

We regret to announce that Umami South Beach had its last day of service on Sunday, June 22nd. Due to ongoing construction issues outside of our control, we are unable to continue operating in this location. We are thankful for our Umami fans in Miami and we look forward to announcing a new location soon. Please visit umami.com and follow us at @umamiburger for our current locations and upcoming openings.
