Now that the the list of Eater Young Guns semi-finalists has been released, it's time to get to know these rising stars. Check this space for regular introductions to each of the 50 semi-finalists and tune in on June 24 to find the list of winners.
"She's a total badass," says Miami-based chef/restaurateur and Eater Young Gun Committee member Michael Schwartz of the 25 year-old Camila Ramos. "She's a little cocky, very creative. What else can I tell you? She's fast, she makes a mean coffee."
That's steep praise, but seems fitting for the Eater Young Gun semi-finalist, who started in the coffee industry as an undergraduate in Florida. She's originally from Cuba and grew up drinking cafe con leche, but didn't start really learning about the high-test world until she turned 20 and started going to Volta in Gainesville, Fl. Since then, she's been obsessed with learning and has won a number of barista competitions. But more than that, Ramos has a desire to teach others all she has absorbed. Now, her passion has found its place at Panther, the place that defines specialty coffee in Miami.
