Harry Potter's New Leaky Cauldron Pub Opens Soon Inside Universal Studios

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley theme park opens this summer at Universal Studios Orlando and here's a look at its main restaurant, the Leaky Cauldron, the "popular wizarding pub and inn" and from the series. A press release notes that to ensure that the space was as authentic as possible, the team spent years studying the books and films and "gathering inspiration from British pubs." Centered in the dining hall beneath rustic ceiling beams are two long rows of wooden tables and benches. Arched nooks lining the perimeter of the space offer additional and more intimate seating. Inspiration from the films comes in the form of a large cauldron that sits in the middle of the restaurant.

The menu is based on traditional British pub fare like bangers and mash, fish and chips, split pea soup, and fisherman's pie. Sticky toffee pudding and chocolate potted cream are among the desserts on offer for sweet-toothed muggles. Two special draught beers — Wizard's Brew and Dragon Scale — have been created just for the restaurant. The ever popular Butterbeer will of course be on hand, as will beverages like pumpkin juice and something called Fishy Green Ale. According to the Universal Orlando blog, the Leaky Cauldron will serve breakfast too. Think: apple oatmeal flan or a leek and mushroom pasties.

The theme park also plans to open an ice cream shop called Florean Fortescue's Ice-Cream Parlour. A press release promises that the store will be "whimsical and colorful" and will serve over 20 kinds of ice cream. The list of flavors includes clotted cream, apple crumble, lavender, orange marmalade, and a soft-serve ice cream version of Butterbeer. The shop will also serve pastries, scones, tarts, and "sweet cakes." The Wizarding World of Harry Potter - Diagon Alley opens to the public on July 8. Go, check out some photos below.
