24 Food & Drink Events for June and Beyond

Summer officially begins this month, which means it's time to eat and drink outside as much as possible. Fortunately, June has got you covered between New York City's annual ode to barbecue (Big Apple Barbecue Block Party), a San Francisco food and music festival with the firepower of Chipotle (Cultivate), and an annual gathering of super famous chefs high up in the Colorado mountains (Aspen Food & Wine Classic). Beyond that, Danny Bowien will compete in a cooking-related regatta (S. Pellegrino Cooking Cup), Eleven Madison Park's Will Guidara and former Per Se general manager Anthony Rudolf will host a conference on hospitality (Welcome Conference), and DC chefs and restaurants will get some recognition (The RAMMY Awards Gala). Kennebunkport Festival
When: June 3 — June 8, 2014
Where: Kennebunkport, ME
What: This week, more than 40 culinary events will hit Kennebunkport for its 10th annual festival. Chefs such as Damian Sansonetti and Cara Stadler will be there, and events include a "Wood Fired Maine" dinner in an antique barn featuring courses from Jody Adams (Rialto, Boston), Melissa Kelly (Primo, Rockland), Justin Walker (Earth, Kennebunkport), and Pichet Ong (New York City).

Slow Food NYC Fundraiser
When: June 5, 2014
Where: New York, NY
What: Slow Food NYC returns with its annual fundraiser/party that includes dishes from Snail of Approval awardees such as Frankie's Spuntino, wine and beer tastings, demos from local chefs, and a garden after-party featuring desserts from Estela and Runner & Stone. This year's event will honor chef Peter Hoffman with the "Snailblazer" award for his commitment to farm-to-table.

Big Apple Barbecue Block Party
When: June 7 - June 8, 2014
Where: New York, NY
What: Pitmasters from across America are descending upon New York for a weekend of barbecue, music, seminars, and booze. Mike Mills, Mike Emerson, Chris Lilly, Daniel Delaney, and more will be serving up plates of barbecue, while rock, blues, and soul artists will perform live in Madison Square Park.

Cultivate Festival
When: June 7 - October 18, 2014
Where: Various locations.
What: Chipotle kicks off its fourth-annual Cultivate Festival on June 7 in San Francisco. The musical lineup includes Neon Trees and Andrew McMahon, while the likes of 4505 Meats, Ritual Coffee Roasters, El Porteno Empanadas and, of course, Chipotle and its sister concept ShopHouse will be providing sustenance in the Artisans' Hall. Also expect some chef demos from Graham Elliot, Amanda Freitag, and more. Cultivate will head to Minneapolis next in August.

Summer by the Sea
When: June 9, 2014
Where: New York, NY
What: Here's a peek at the crazy lineup for this year's Summer by the Sea fundraiser for New York's Citymeals-on-Wheels: Michael Anthony, Jonathan Benno, Daniel Boulud, Bobby Flay, Marc Forgione, Nobu Matsuhisa, Charlie Palmer, Ari Taymor, Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Jonathan Waxman, Sang Yoon, and many more. They'll be interpreting coastal, summer fare at tasting stations scattered across Rockefeller Center Plaza.

Huichica Music Festval
When: June 13 - June 14, 2014
Where: Sonoma, CA
What: The Huichica Music Festival returns to Sonoma's scenic Gundlach Bundschu Winery with sets from David Longstreth, Mount Eerie Vetiver, and more, plus food from Bunk Sandwiches and Salumeria. Not to mention, plenty of wine (and beer) to be had.

S. Pellegrino Cooking Cup
When: June 13 — June 15, 2014
Where: Venice, Italy
What: Mission Chinese/Mission Cantina chef Danny Bowien will represent the US this year at the 14th annual S. Pellegrino Cooking Cup in Venice, Italy. Over the course of the weekend, Bowien will face off against peers from Australia, Germany, Italy, Korea, and beyond to create a signature dish in a Young Chef of the Year dinner as well as a cook aboard a racing boat during the regatta. Last year's Young Chef of the Year winner Paul Qui will serve as a judge this year.

The Duckathlon
When: June 14, 2014
Where: New York, NY
What: D'Artagnan is hosting an interactive event with chefs and farmers that they're dubbing The Duckathlon this month at Manhattan's Metropolitan Pavilion. Chefs such as Anita Lo, David Waltuck, Brad Farmerie, and more will pair up with farmers to lead challenges like cooking battles for teams of the general public.

Cookbook Camp
When: June 15 — June 17 and June 18 — June 21, 2014
Where: Brooklyn, NY
What: Matt Lee and Ted Lee are bringing their Cookbook Camp retreat to Brooklyn this month with two separate sessions. The first session will teach working chefs about the fundamentals and various steps of writing a cookbook, while the second session will be geared toward bloggers, beverage professionals, and other interested parties.

Welcome Conference
When: June 17, 2014
Where: New York, NY
What: Eleven Madison Park's Will Guidara and former Per Se general manager Anthony Rudolf are hosting a one-day conference on the art of restaurant hospitality this June. Speakers include former New York Times critic Frank Bruni, Shake Shack's Randy Garutti, Brian and Mark Canlis, and Nick Kokonas of Alinea/Next/The Aviary.

Food on Film
When: June 18 — July 9, 2014
Where: Toronto, Canada
What: The Toronto International Film Festival is bringing back its monthly "Food on Film" series in which chefs and food experts come in to talk about their favorite food movies. Toronto Star columnist Corey Mintz will discuss My Dinner With Andre on June 18, and Booker and Dax's Dave Arnold will weigh in on Soylent Green in July.

Taste of London
When: June 18 — June 22, 2014
Where: London, England
What: This year's Taste of London features demos from international heavy-hitters such as Massimo Bottura, René Redzepi and Michel Roux, Jr, not to mention Jason Atherton, Tom Sellers, Ashley Palmer-Watts, and Shake Shack's Mark Rosati. There will also be a Korean bar, Thai street food, and a Thai spa.

Aspen Food & Wine Classic
When: June 20 — June 22, 2014
Where: Aspen, CO
What: The annual Food & Wine Classic returns to Aspen this year with as star-studded a lineup as ever. Chefs Grant Achatz, Richard Blais, Alex Stupak, and Jonathan Waxman are teaming up for a dinner with a "Wonderland" theme, while Gail Simmons hosts a dessert party featuring a serious spread of sweets from well-known pastry chefs.

Bon Appétit Grub Crawl
When: June 21, 2014 — August 16, 2014
Where: Various locations
What: Bon Appétit's Grub Crawl returns to New York with two separate crawls: one in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and the other on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. For $149, crawlers will visit the likes of Glasserie and Alameda, or Pig and Khao and Contra. Later this Summer, there's another Grub Crawl in the works for Park City, Utah, with two separate "trails" available there as well.

Grand Cochon

What: Traveling pork orgy Cochon 555 has wound its way around America to crown the Princes and Princesses of Pork who will face off on June 22 at the Grand Cochon in Aspen.

The RAMMY Awards Gala

What: Awards season continues in June with the annual RAMMY Awards Gala, a celebration of Washington, DC's dining scene. Chefs and restaurants from the region — only those that are members of the local restaurant association — will be honored for everything from best new restaurant to favorite gathering place of the year.

Dinner Party at Camino with Paula Wolfert

Where: San Francisco, CA
What: Yet another major lineup of chefs has come together for a dinner to benefit The Alzheimer's Association in tribute to the legendary cookbook author Paula Wolfert. Daniel Patterson, David Kinch, Mourad Lahlou, Cal Peternell, Amaryll Schwertner, and Gayle Pirie will join Camino's Russell Moore for this collaborative dinner and silent auction.

Jackson Hole Wine Auction

What: This year is the 20th anniversary of the Jackson Hole Wine Auction, an event that brings in talented chefs from across the country for private dinners to complement its Grand Wine Tasting. This year, Thomas McNaughton, Roy Yamaguchi, and Ricky Estrellado and Ryo Hasegawa of Nobu are among the lineup of chefs.

Fancy Food Show

What: New York City is hosting this Summer's Fancy Food Show, which will showcase about 180,000 food products from exhibitors across the world. Expect to find plenty of cheese, spices, and probably also a bunch of random products that taste or smell like bacon.

Windy City Smokeout
When: July 11 — July 13, 2014
Where: Chicago, IL
What: Chicago is bringing in some of barbecue's finest for this year's Windy City Smokeout, featuring Myron Mixon, The Salt Lick, Dinosaur BBQ, Pappy's Smokehouse, Lilly's Q, event host Bub City, and more. Each day will also feature musical entertainment such as Brett Eldredge, the Randy Rogers Band, and Eli Young Band.

Tales of the Cocktail
When: July 16 — July 20, 2014
Where: New Orleans, LA
What: Bartenders and other spirits professionals head to New Orleans next month for five booze-filled days at Tales of the Cocktail. As usual, there will be all kinds of tastings and seminars, as well drinking-focused dinners and parties. July 19 brings the annual Spirited Awards, which honors the country's finest beverage professionals.

Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival
When: July 25 — July 27, 2014
Where: Atlantic City, NJ
What: Caesars Entertainment is hosting the sixth annual Atlantic City Food and Wine Festival featuring a slew of chefs and TV personalities. Marcus Samuelsson will be hosting a New England clambake, while none other than Martha Stewart herself is throwing a burger beach bash where she will share some of her burger secrets. Robert Irvine will also be on hand for an afternoon of barbecue and blues.

Los Angeles Food & Wine
When: August 21 — August 24, 2014
Where: Los Angeles, CA
What: LA Food & Wine is back this year featuring a lineup that includes Masaharu Morimoto, Graham Elliot, Daniel Boulud, and many other yet-to-be-announced chefs. According to Eater LA, this year's event includes a Chef Challenge that "pits influential chefs in a culinary battle (for charity)."

MAD 4
When: August 24 — August 25, 2014
Where: Copenhagen, Denmark
What: René Redzepi's annual MAD Symposium returns this August with D.O.M. chef Alex Atala on board as co-curator. Chefs, cooks, farmers, and other industry professionals will take over Copenhagen to discuss what cooking is today, how it will evolve, and their own responsibilities within that.
