A department store in Tokyo is selling bananas so fancy they have serial numbers. According to Kotaku, Takashimaya Department Store in Shinjuku is selling a limited edition premium banana from Dole, called Gokusen, for today only for 590 yen ($5.80) each. Only 59 of the bananas were offered today because it's a play on the today's date May 9 or 5/9. The bananas come packaged in a special box and weigh in at 200 grams each. According to Dole Japan (translated), the fruit was developed by selecting the best qualities from over 100 bananas and are grown at 500 meters above sea level. Dole isn't the first company in Japan to go above and beyond to produce a premium version of the fruit. A Japanese fruit company ripens its bananas in a room with Mozart on repeat because it "results in a sweeter fruit." Go, watch a video (in Japanese) about the Gokusen bananas:
