Last night the James Beard Foundation announced the winners of the 2014 James Beard Foundation Book, Broadcast & Journalism Awards (see the list of 2014 finalists).
Cookbook and book winners include The Art of French Pastry by Jacquy Pfeiffer; Smoke: New Firewood Cooking by Tim Byres; Every Grain of Rice: Simple Chinese Home Cooking by Fuchsia Dunlop; and for photography, René Redzepi: A Work in Progress . Heston Blumenthal came away with not one but two awards for Historic Heston, and Diana Kennedy was inducted into the Cookbook Hall of Fame.
On the journalism side, it was a huge night for Lucky Peach, which won a whopping five awards including the MFK Fisher Distinguished Writing Award and one for Francis Lam's profile of chef Alex Lee. Bon Appétit writer Adam Sachs took home the "Food-Related Columns" award for the second year in a row, and the magazine also snagged another award in the "Food and Travel" category. The Craig Claiborne Distinguished Restaurant Review Award went to GQ's Alan Richman, and Pok Pok chef Andy Ricker won in the "Cooking, Recipes, or Instruction" category for a piece in Saveur. The Mind of a Chef won for "Television Program, on Location" for the second year in a row as well.
The 2014 JBF Restaurant and Chef Awards goes down on Monday night. Here's the full list of Book, Broadcast and Journalism winners:
