GWAR Launches Campaign to Raise Funds for GWARbar

Heavy metal rockers GWAR have launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise funds to start their own restaurant, GWARbar. It is set to open in the band's hometown of Richmond, Virginia and will of course be GWAR-themed. The band tells Loudwire that the restaurant will be a place "to gorge on delectable food-stuffs whilst hoisting endless flagons of liquid glee." Opening a restaurant was a dream of late GWAR frontman Dave Brockie (a.k.a Oderus Urungus) who passed away earlier this year.

According to the fundraising page, band member Michael Derks, also known as BalSac the Jaws 'o Death, apparently has 30 years of restaurant experience and will be creating the cocktail program and menu which will feature "gourmet junk food." The band also hopes to create a beer garden or "beer GWARden" on the upper level outdoor deck of the space. GWAR writes they are also going to use the funds to buy a "GWAR sized" meat grinder to make "creative new takes on hot dogs and freshly ground hamburgers." There are also plans to build a smoke house to create their "world famous GWAR-B-Q" which Loudwire notes was made popular by their "GWAR-B-Q cookout and music festival."

The hilarious prizes for donating to the campaign include everything from their "undying scorn" (if you donate $1) to a cooking class with BalSac (for $750). For donating $25, GWAR will "acknowledge your existence." If you contribute $250 you can be in their "Hall of Shame" which will be "probably somewhere near the toilets." The band has raised $6,263 of their $50,000 goal so far and the campaign has 25 days left to go. If all goes to plan the band writes that they hope to have GWARbar up and running this summer.
