Hillary Dixler Canavan is Eater's restaurant editor and the author of the publication's debut book, Eater: 100 Essential Restaurant Recipes From the Authority on Where to Eat and Why It Matters (Abrams, September 2023). Her work focuses on dining trends and the people changing the industry — and scouting the next hot restaurant you need to try on Eater's annual Best New Restaurant list.

Here's a fun rumor: An unnamed source tells the Hollywood Reporter that Ken Friedman and chef April Bloomfield are bringing a location of their essential New York City restaurant the Spotted Pig to Los Angeles. Friedman and Bloomfield are reportedly planning to take over a restaurant space in Venice. Eater reached out for confirmation from Friedman and has received no word. A rep for the Spotted Pig had no comment.

The rumored expansion would be Friedman and Bloomfield's third property in California — last year they opened Tosca Cafe in San Francisco and are taking over the strip club next door —and their first in LA. Incidentally, a Spotted Pig in Los Angeles would also be the first time Friedman and Bloomfield were operating two locations of the same concept.
