The out-of-print first issue of Lucky Peach which extolls the glories of ramen is back in print. Well, sort of. Taiwanese company Lumieries Publishing has translated the 174-page premiere issue of Momofuku's quarterly into Chinese and it can be purchased for 380 New Taiwan Yuan, or roughly $12.50.The Lucky Peach Tumblr notes that the issue, which includes an eating tour of Japan from David Chang, has been "altered lightly."
While the English issues originally sold for $10, they typically sell for over $100 on eBay. Some have even garnered as much as $162.50. So really, the Chinese version a relative steal—even if you can't actually read it. Check out a few of the translated pages below:
