Hillary Dixler Canavan is Eater's restaurant editor and the author of the publication's debut book, Eater: 100 Essential Restaurant Recipes From the Authority on Where to Eat and Why It Matters (Abrams, September 2023). Her work focuses on dining trends and the people changing the industry — and scouting the next hot restaurant you need to try on Eater's annual Best New Restaurant list.

The patron saints of megatipping TipsForJesus have struck again, this time in Washington, DC. As shown in their customary Instagram post, TipsForJesus left a $5,000 tip to a server at Blue Duck Tavern at the Park Hyatt hotel. The bill was for $45.10, which means the still-anonymous tipster left roughly 11085% in gratuity. The group also posted a picture of their server with the receipt, so thankfully we know he won't suffer the same fate as the San Francisco server who threw out his megatip thinking it was a mistake.
