Here are your Tuesday morning food and beverage book deals: First up, proprietor of San Francisco's popular tiki bar Smuggler's Cove Martin Cate is writing Smuggler's Cove: Cocktails, Rum, and the Cult of Tiki. Due out in Fall 2015 from Ten Speed Press, Cate's book will "look at the world of tiki cocktails and culture, from its roots in 1930s Hollywood through its mid-century heyday to the craft tiki revival now in full swing around the nation and the world." The book will also serve as "a guide to the mysterious spirit that is rum" with recipes for tiki drinks, full-color illustrations, and "a primer on tiki style."
Page Six reports that Studio 54 founder Ian Schrager is publishing a coffee table book with Rizzoli. Due out in Fall 2015, Schrager is gathering snapshots from various photographers who chronicled the legendary club and is interviewing Studio 54 regulars like the Dupont twins, Carlos Souza, and Tom Ford. Writer Billy Norwich is on board as well, and says the book will focus on "the people who made the place work — design, lighting, flowers, the aspect Ian especially represents." The title has not been announced yet.
New York Times writer Robert Simonson is writing about cocktails for Ten Speed Press. The Modern Classic will be "the first book to chronicle the story of the craft cocktail renaissance" and will feature 25 "iconic, important libations." No release date has been announced yet.
Finally, cheese expert Liz Thorpe is a writing "a reference guide to the world's cheeses" to be published by Flatiron Books. Thorpe, the founder of The People's Cheese and former VP of NYC institution Murray's Cheese, will be providing "opinions and commentary" on over 600 cheeses and will cover topics from cheese making to recipes for classic cheese dishes in 21st Century Cheese. No release date has been announced yet.
