Here's a video of British celebrity chef/restaurateur Marco Pierre White talking to The Age about his return to the popular Australian show MasterChef. While he of course praises the show ("MasterChef...has inspired more people in Australia to cook, more people to come into our industry than any other institution"), he also talks about the role he sees the media playing in the food industry. While shows like MasterChef have made it "sexy," he says journalists and food blogger play a big part too: "Food critics, journalists, bloggers, they all contribute to our industry, they all contribute to making it interesting. They make people want to go and eat, they make people want to go into our industry."
In the course of the interview, White also gives his view on fine dining, which he suggests is on the way out in favor of affordable casual dining. He says his favorite restaurant doesn't have Michelin stars, rather it's a place he "want[s] to sit in." Interestingly, White is currently planning a show about Michelin-starred food. Anyway, go, watch:
