When Franklin Barbecue meets Dominique Ansel Bakery, there is only one thing to do: make a sandwich. When Austin, Texas barbecue master Aaron Franklin met up with pastry king Dominique Ansel at SXSW, the two boldly agreed to make a sandwich combining their two specialties. Ansel nominated his DKAs over the Cronut, as he thought the Cronut's custard layer would make for a poor sandwich. As both Franklin's barbecue and Ansel's bakery have epic lines (and are 1,743 miles from each other), this was a once-in-a-lifetime occurrence. The ruling? The pastry's sweetness played well off the barbecue.
