Hillary Dixler Canavan is Eater's restaurant editor and the author of the publication's debut book, Eater: 100 Essential Restaurant Recipes From the Authority on Where to Eat and Why It Matters (Abrams, September 2023). Her work focuses on dining trends and the people changing the industry — and scouting the next hot restaurant you need to try on Eater's annual Best New Restaurant list.

After raising $255,669 in a massively funded Kickstarter, 2013 Eater Young Gun Mike Brown opened the doors to the much-anticipated Travail and its sister concept The Rookery in Robbinsdale, MN this week. Eater Minneapolis takes a look inside and finds the two restaurants sharing space within a massive building. Along with industrial touches like exposed beams and pipes, there's also a prominently displayed chalkboard wall with the names of the many, many Kickstarter backers. Travail — which closed for renovations last year — will be serving a set tasting menu each night, while over at The Rookery, drinks and "small bites" are available.
