Hillary Dixler Canavan is Eater's restaurant editor and the author of the publication's debut book, Eater: 100 Essential Restaurant Recipes From the Authority on Where to Eat and Why It Matters (Abrams, September 2023). Her work focuses on dining trends and the people changing the industry — and scouting the next hot restaurant you need to try on Eater's annual Best New Restaurant list.

After raising $255,669 in a massively funded Kickstarter, 2013 Eater Young Gun Mike Brown is throwing open the doors to Travail and its sister concept The Rookery in Robbinsdale, MN tonight. Eater Minneapolis reports that Travail — which closed for renovations last year — will be serving a set tasting menu each night. Interestingly, no reservations are accepted.

Over at The Rookery, there's "a rotating menu of 20 plus small bites" and a selection of cocktails with a "Travailian twist." Customers can either stay for dinner or have pre- and post-Travail snacks and drinks. Travail and The Rookery soft opened last week, serving the many, many Kickstarter backers who redeemed their rewards for donating $100 or more.
