GQ's '12 Most Outstanding Restaurants of 2014'

Here is a list of 25 restaurants from GQ's Alan Richman, which the magazine refers to as the "best restaurants of the year" and the "most outstanding restaurants of the year." Taking the top spot is Paul Qui's Qui in Austin, which Richman describes as "the most fascinating new restaurant in America." (Interestingly, Qui did not get a semifinalist nod from the James Beard Foundation yesterday). Richman also has high praise for Ludo Lefebvre, Jon Shook, and Vinny Dotolo's white hot Trois Mec (#2) in Los Angeles, which takes the number two spot for being "worth the effort" of getting through the door.

Other restaurants earning top honors include Sean Brock's Husk Nashville (#6), Mario Carbone and Rich Torrisi's pricey red sauce restaurant Carbone (#4) in NYC , and Kevin Gillespie's ultracasual Gunshow (#7) in Atlanta. Richman also includes Trent Pierce's Roe (#3) in Portland, which opened in 2012. This year, Richman writes, American restaurants have "figured out what men crave—we want places that slake our appetite, romance the hell out of us, and provide us with a sense of promise and possibility."
