It's an evening meant for shitshows and romance, so of course McDonald's is getting in on the Valentine's Day action tonight. Two Tampa, FL locations are pulling out the stops and transforming themselves into full service sit-down restaurants, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Customers will sit at tables with flowers and LED candles and will be served by counter employees who have been "retrained as waiters offering table service and refills." Reservations are only available by phone, and the first 10 who reserved will have roses waiting for them at the restaurant.
Apparently the idea came from a service manager in Tampa, though this sort of thing has been done before. A North Carolina McDonald's is offerings its third annual "Candlelight Dinner" this year, complete with table service and "musical selections from Ron." Tampa GM Ernesto Izquierdo says McDonald's is an affordable Valentine's Day option in keeping with the true spirit of the holiday: "There [is] a misconception that it has to be romantic. It's about showing someone you love them." In the WTSP video below, Izquierdo says it's a diverse group on the reservation books, including families and young couples. Go, watch:
