Dumb Starbucks Was Set Up by a Comedy Central Show

Very dumb internet sensation Dumb Starbucks, the parody Starbucks coffee shop that popped up in Los Angeles over the weekend, was revealed to be a prank set up by Nathan Fielder, the comedian behind Comedy Central's Nathan for You. Eater LA was on the scene for a dumb but well-attended live press conference this afternoon, as Fielder came forward — complete with Starbucks apron — and announced that Brooklyn would get its very own Dumb Starbucks "in two weeks" (maybe seriously, who knows).

According to Comedy Central, the show features Fielder"assist[ing] struggling small businesses to make it in a competitive market." In a comedic way. Earlier today, Eater LA documented the lines wrapping around the location, as people showed up to collect the dumb parody merchandise and participate in what they believed to be an artsy "culture hack." Those in line will presumably show up on Comedy Central, as Nathan For You's second season will air later this year.

UPDATE 2/11: After it was revealed that Dumb Starbucks was the work of Comedy Central's Nathan Fielder, the Los Angeles County Health Department has shut it down for operating without a permit.
