Here's a charming video about Jo Snow Syrups, an artisan syrup company based in Chicago. Founder and "senior syrup slinger" Melissa Yen makes exotic concoctions to put in coffee, snow cones, cocktails, and beer. She explains that she is inspired by ingredients from other cultures and demonstrates how to make both an herbal woodruff syrup — which features ingredients like fennel — and a cola syrup concocted with plenty of spices. Yen believes people "take life too seriously" and that they should have more fun by adding flavors like fig vanilla black pepper and ginger passionfruit to their drinks.
