CHICAGO— Bartender Paul McGee, who announced his departure from Chicago's iconic tiki bar Three Dots and a Dash earlier this fall, has landed at another of the city's major restaurant groups. Eater Chicago reports McGee has been named beverage director at Land and Sea Dept., which runs concepts like Longman & Eagle. McGee will oversee the beverage programs at three of Land and Sea's upcoming projects, including a high-profile space inside the Chicago Athletic Association Hotel. [ECHI]

LOS ANGELES— Eater LA scores this illicit sneak peek into Andy Ricker's hotly anticipated Pok Pok Phat Thai, the bicoastal chef's first restaurant in Los Angeles. The tiny restaurant — with just a handful of bar seats inside — is awaiting the final approval from the county health department; a sign on the door says it's "coming soon." [ELA]

APPS— Apple Pay, the mobile payment system that launched in October, hopes to be available in the UK by "the first half of 2015": But as the Verge points out, privacy concerns from one major UK bank might stall Apple's plans. Stateside, chains like McDonald's, Subway, and OpenTable have embraced the Apple Pay technology, which allows users to store credit card information on a chip inside smartphones. [The Verge]
