'Tis the season for all things shiny at Starbucks: First the coffee chain unleashed $200 sterling silver keychains and $110 Swarovski crystal bejeweled tumblers. Now, according to a press release, the company has introduced a Starbucks card made from 10-kt hammered gold that is worth an estimated $5,000.
The 10-kt gold card — which is apparently the "most exclusive Starbucks card ever made" — cannot be bought. So how does a collector of Starbucks' shiniest items get their hands on one? Hopefuls must win one of the gold cards through the chain's "It's a Wonderful Card" contest, which opens today.
Through January 5, any customer that pays for their order using a Starbucks card or the chain's mobile app will have the chance to enter. Ten lucky latte lovers will win free Starbucks for life. Though it should be noted that by "life," the chain really means "one free food or beverage item from participating stores every day for the next 30 years." Regardless, that's still a lot of Pumpkin Spice Lattes.
